DESCRIPTION:Max Eisen Shares His Story\nHDCH students will have the privilege of meeting the bestselling author and Holocaust survivor\, Max Eisen. Mr. Eisen travels around the world speaking with young people about the power of resilience\, freedom of speech and education. \nThere are limited seats available to join this student assembly.  Those who register online first will be offered seating in the gym with our students.  When these seats are filled\, additional seats will be made available in the cafeteria to watch via live stream.  If you are not able to attend the presentation will also be available on our YouTube channel. \nCopies of Max’s books will be available to purchase. \nReserve your seat today.\n\n \n\nAbout Max Eisen\nMr. Max Eisen was born into an Orthodox Jewish family in Moldava nad Bodvou\, a Slovak town that was annexed by Hungary during the Second World War. He was part of an extended family of 60 and lived on a family estate with his parents\, two younger brothers\, his sister\, grandparents and an uncle and aunt. \nWhen Eisen was only 15 years old\, he and his family were taken by force from their home in Hungary to a Nazi concentration camp in occupied Poland. As a prisoner at Auschwitz-Birkenau\, he endured slave labour\, extreme malnutrition\, and exposure to severe weather.  On May 6\, 1945\, at the end of World War II\, Mr. Eisen was finally liberated from the camp. He lost his parents\, his three siblings and nearly 60 other relatives in the Holocaust. \nAfter his liberation\,  Mr. Eisen immigrated to Canada in 1949. \n“I lived through a traumatic and cruel period of history. There are important lessons to be learned and personal accounts to be recorded.” ~ Max Eisen \nHe is a passionate speaker and educator who volunteers at the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre and the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center in Toronto. \n“I am inspired by the need to document my story so others may learn from the past. On a personal level\, I have a highly developed sense of observation of the world around me\, which constantly inspires and motivates me to take action.”~ Max Eisen \nHe currently resides in Toronto with his wife\, Ivy. His book\, By Chance Alone\, won the Canada Reads award in 2019.
